Green Card Lottery
What is a Green Card?
A green card is a US permanent residence visa. It allows you to
live and work permanently and legally in the United States. A green
card gives you the legal right to live and work permanently in the
United States and to enter and leave the country freely. Green card
holders also receive health, education, and other benefits, and
they can sponsor relatives for green cards. The green card does
not affect present citizenship. A green card holder may later apply
for United States citizenship, if desired.
What is the Green Card Lottery Program?
Each year, 50,000 immigrant visas are made available through a lottery
to people who come from countries with low rates of immigration
to the United States. None of these visas are available for people
who come from countries that have sent more than 50,000 immigrants
to the United States in the past five years. Anyone who is selected
under this lottery will be given the opportunity to apply for permanent
residence. If permanent residence is granted, then the individual
will be authorized to live and work permanently in the United States.
You will also be allowed to bring your spouse and any unmarried
children under the age of 21 to the United States. To register for

When
can I register for the Green Card Lottery?
USA Immigration Services accepts entries starting from November
7, 2002 untill November 6, 2003. We strongly recommend that you
apply as soon as possible to guarantee proper processing of your
application. Early application is recommended to avoid delays in
postal transit and allow enough time to contact you if additional
information is needed. If your application is received after the
deadline, USAIS will automatically process your application for
the next Green Card Lottery Program. To register for the Green Card
Lottery now Click Here.
Can
a family apply twice for the Green Card Lottery?
Husband and wife may each submit one application. If you receive
a Green Card, your spouse and unmarried children under 21 will also
get Green Cards at the same time as you. Unmarried children under
21 may be included on each of their parents' application forms.
All children over 21 years of age must file separate applications.
Submitting two applications for you and your spouse will double
your winning chances. To register for the Green Card Lottery now

What
is the Green Card Application Selection Process?
USA Immigration Services accepts Green Card Applications between
November 7, 2002 and November 6, 2003. These Green Card applications
are sorted according to geographic regions (Africa, Asia, Europe,
South America, North America and Oceania). Each Green Card application
is individually numbered and screened.
Within each region the Kentucky Consular Center Computer randomly
selects and registers Green Card applications from all the entries
received. The U.S. Dept. of State selects about 90,000 applications
in order to ensure that all 50,000 annual Green cards will be issued.
This means that only the first 50,000 qualified winners will actually
receive a Green Card. No country may receive more than 5,500 diversity
visas in any given year. To register for the Green Card Lottery
now Click Here.
Can
a husband and wife double their chances of winning by entering separately?
A single person can only enter the lottery one time each year. Married
persons can each enter one time thus doubling the chance for the
family to win. To take advantage of this, the husband and wife must
each submit a separate application as the primary applicant. To
register for the Green Card Lottery now Click Here.
When will I know if I have been selected?
Winners are notified by mail between April and July of every year.
Only winners are notified. If you do not receive notification by
July, it means you were not selected from the previous year's entry
and you may reapply for the current year. To register for the Green
Card Lottery now Click Here.
